Why are they different?
If you're considering switching from a Food Club Card to a Shopping Card, it's important to understand the differences between the two products so you can decide which option best suits your needs.
Food Club Card
The Food Club Card is designed specifically to help with food shopping.
Key Features
Credit limit of up to £100
Interest-free – you'll never repay more than you borrow
Can be used at Iceland and The Food Warehouse
Top-ups are available during designated Top-Up Windows, typically around six times a year and often aligned with school holidays
Top-Up Eligibility
To apply for a top-up:
Your balance must be below £75
Your account must not be in arrears
Shopping Card
The Shopping Card offers greater flexibility and a higher credit limit.
Key Features
Credit limit of up to £350
Can be used at a range of approved retailers
Top-ups can be requested throughout the year
Interest applies, which means you'll repay more than the amount borrowed if interest is charged over the life of the loan
You can view the full list of approved retailers here
Top-Up Eligibility
To apply for a top-up:
Your balance must be below £262.50
Your account must not be in arrears
Before You Apply
You cannot have both a Food Club Card and a Shopping Card at the same time.
If you'd like to apply for a Shopping Card, your Food Club Card will need to be closed first.
Before this can happen:
Your Food Club Card balance must be fully repaid
There must be no outstanding amount remaining on the loan
How to Upgrade
If your Food Club Card balance has been repaid in full and you'd like to proceed:
Contact us to let us know you'd like to upgrade.
We'll remove your Food Club Card from your account.
Once this has been completed, you'll be able to apply for a Shopping Card straight away.
We'll confirm when the Food Club Card has been removed and you're ready to apply.
What Happens After I Apply?
If Your Application Is Successful
The approved Shopping Card balance will be added to your existing prepaid card.
If Your Application Is Unsuccessful
If your Shopping Card application is not approved and you'd like to use a Food Club Card again, you'll need to submit a new application.
Any new Food Club Card application will be assessed in line with our normal eligibility criteria at the time of application.
